Commitment to Standards
There is no software reusability without standards, and no company has done more to support key industry standards than Wind River. From comprehensive Linux solutions to support for the open-source Eclipse framework to our involvement in key industry consortia such as AUTOSAR, Moblin, Open Handset Alliance, the LiMo Foundation, the Linux Foundation, SCOPE, OpenSAF, and many others, we're proving our commitment to openness every day
Wind River's Open Source Leadership
Eclipse
Eclipse is an open source community whose projects are focused on building an open development platform comprised of extensible frameworks, tools and runtimes for building, deploying and managing software across the lifecycle. Wind River is a leader in the Eclipse development community and standards body, guiding the top-level Device Software Development Platform (DSDP) project and contributed more than 300,000 lines of code back to Eclipse to improve device software development capabilities in Eclipse. Wind River also leads the Device Debugging and Target Management subprojects that are an integral part of DSDP.
LiMo Foundation
LiMo Foundation is advancing the creation, evolution, promotion, and support of a globally competitive, Linux-based software platform for mobile devices and cultivating an ecosystem of complementary products, capabilities, and services. Wind River is a core member of LiMo and participates on the executive committee, the architectural council, and the requirements council with the other founders and core members.
Moblin.org
Moblin.org is an open source community for sharing software technologies, ideas, projects, code, and applications to create an untethered computing experience across mobile Internet devices (MIDs), netbooks, and embedded devices. The computing hardware is based on Intel Atom processor technology, which requires software optimized for low power, low footprint, high performance, wireless, and graphics to deliver a full Internet experience. Wind River has made available an open source automotive Linux specification and code to the open source community via a new in-vehicle infotainment segment within Moblin.org. Expanding our involvement with Moblin, Wind River is committed to providing a full-featured, open source Moblin-based stack optimized for MIDs in 2009.
OpenSAF
OpenSAF is an open source project established to develop a base platform middleware consistent with Service Availability™ Forum (SA Forum™) specifications. The OpenSAF Foundation was established by leading Communications and Enterprise Computing Companies to facilitate the OpenSAF Project and to accelerate the adoption of the OpenSAF code base in commercial products. Wind River sits in the OpenSAF Foundation's Board of Directors to assist in driving the adoption of an high availability middleware implementation across the telecommunications and networking industries. Also, Wind River supports developers' efforts to accelerate and complete the OpenSAF project.
Transparent Inter Process Communication (TIPC)
TIPC is designed for use in clustered computer environments, allowing designers to create applications that can communicate quickly and reliably with other applications regardless of their location within the cluster. Wind River has contributed TIPC support to open source community and is actively involved in TIPC Working Group that oversees the evolution of TIPC and supports its open source implementations.
